ポリエチレンは比重が0.91～0.97で水より軽く、溶融加工により容易に成形品を生産できるため、国内で年間250万トン以上が包装、物流、産業資材として幅広く使用されています。分子構造および性状から次の3種類に大別されます。

・短鎖分岐と長鎖分岐を持ち密度が0.94未満の低密度ポリエチレン（LDPE）

・直鎖状で短鎖分岐を持ち密度が同じく0.94未満のリニアー低密度ポリエチレン（L-LDPE）

・分岐がほとんどなく密度が0.94以上の高密度ポリエチレン（HDPE）

polypropylene

Polypropylene is a highly crystalline polymer in which propylene molecules are arranged in a regularly spaced, three-dimensional manner. Due to its excellent strength, heat resistance, chemical resistance, colorability, and processability, more than 2.5 million tons of polypropylene are used annually in Japan for a wide range of products, from daily necessities to industrial goods. Copolymers with ethylene include random copolymers and block copolymers; the former is highly transparent, while the latter has strong impact resistance.

- Its specific gravity is 0.90, making it lightweight, which is advantageous when compared by unit weight compared to other resins.

• Its tensile strength is greater than that of polyethylene. It also exhibits good compressive strength and impact strength.

It has a melting point of 165°C, making it one of the more heat-resistant thermoplastics.

• It exhibits good high-frequency dielectric properties and electrical properties such as breakdown voltage.

The problem of weather resistance can be solved by using additives and UV absorbers.
